LICA Degree Show 2023

'Raising my body' is my final undergraduate performance at Lancaster University. Exploring topical feminist issues surrounding period pain, menopause and childbirth, the performance investigates the painful cycles of womanhood. Embodying these cycles, I explore two alter egos: my younger and older self. These alter egos come alive on monitors, their conversation working as its own piece. Every hour I stand between the monitors, interacting with my past and future self, adding a new dynamic. 'Raising my body' encompasses all the skills I have learnt throughout my degree, experimenting with spoken word and art writing. The performance allows me to communicate with the different versions of myself, commenting on my personal relationship with my body. For Degree Show I performed this piece every day for a week in front of LIVE audiences.
